Opera Index ≈2008 Vocal Competition Application≈

Opera Index, Inc. is a New York based tax-exempt corporation whose mission is to assist young singers at the very early stages of their careers with cash awards totaling $39.000, based upon a vocal competition.

The major Awards are: $10,000, 7,500, 5,000 , 4,000 and 3,000. The Encouragement Grants are $750 each.

Auditions
Auditions will be scheduled between 10:00 A.M and 4:30 P.M Monday, October 13, 2008 & Tuesday, October 14, 2008 and Finals on Thursday, October 16, 2008, 10:00 AM to 4:30 PM and will be held at the Dicapo Opera Theatre, 184 East 76th Street in New York City.

Applicants must not be older than 35 at the time of the first audition and be referred by music professionals.

All completed applications must be received no later than October 1, 2008 and must be accompanied by a non-refundable $30.00 processing fee.

AWARDS
Career Award winners ($2,000 and above) must sing at the January 11, 2009 Award Gala at the Jumeirah Essex House in New York City.

Encouragement Award winners ($750) must sing at either the November 5, 2008 Membership Party or the May 4, 2009 Spring Luncheon in NYC to receive their cash awards.

Opera Index, Inc. is a completely voluntary not-for-profit organization whose mission is to help young singers at the very early stages of their careers through its Vocal Competition supported by its membership enrollment, fund-raising events as well as individual contributions and corporate or foundation grants.

OTHER APPLICATION MATERIALS REQUIRED:
  1. A recent photograph.
  2. Two (2) Letters of Endorsement from music professionals familiar with your professional qualifications. (May be included with your application or sent directly to Opera Index, Inc. at the CPW address: Janet Stovin, 151 Central Park West #1W, NY NY 10023)
  3. A $30.00 non-refundable processing fee.
  4. A photocopy of your Birth Certificate, Passport or Driver's License.

OTHER RULES AND REGULATIONS - PLEASE READ CAREFULLY
  1. Applications must be received no later than October 1, 2008.
  2. Candidates accepted for the preliminary audition must submit 12 copies of a list of 5 arias in contrasting styles and languages on the day of the audition. The preliminary auditions will be held on Monday, October 13, 2008, and Tuesday, October 14, 2008, at the Dicapo Opera Theatre, 184 East 76th St. at Lexington Ave. in New York City from 10:00 AM to 4:30 PM.
  3. Candidates accepted for the final audition must submit 20 copies of the same list of 5 arias. The Final Auditions will be held on Thursday, October 16, 2008, at the Dicapo Opera Theatre, 184 East 76th St. at Lexington Ave. in New York City from 10:00 AM to 4:30 PM.
  4. An accompanist will be provided free of charge. Any rehearsal with the accompanist must be arranged and paid for by the Applicant.
  5. Applicants are responsible for bringing their own music to the auditions.
  6. Major Award Winners Ð awards starting at $2,000 Ð must perform at the Distinguished Achievement Award Gala on Sunday, January 11, 2009, at the Jumeirah Essex House, 160 Central Park South, New York City, in order to receive their awards. The recital will require two rehearsals within 48 hours prior to the gala. It is important for the winners to attend these rehearsals.
  7. Encouragement Award Winners must perform at either the Membership Party, Wednesday, November 5, 2008, or at the Spring Lunch, Sunday, May 3rd, 2009, in order to receive their awards.
  8. Encouragement Award Winners and applicants who have not received awards may reapply.

Submission of the Application does NOT guarantee the Applicant an audition
Singing at the audition does NOT guarantee the Applicant a grant.
Encouragement Grant winners and non-winning competitors may reapply after the following competition.
